I can never forget my first

He is etched on my heart and soul

From when I was innocent and untouched

Not yet soiled by society

Still naive and hopeful

Passionate and creative

Dreaming of a bright future

But then I was ripped from my fantasies

Stripped bare

Raped by medicine and doctors and diagnoses

I was a virgin penetrated by traumas

It was painful

I didn’t belong

I longed to escape from my cage

And so I burned my Self to the ground

Resurrecting and liberating myself

On the ninth day

My first love never came to me

He never held me

Nor did he touch me

All I had was his words

Brief glimpses of his voice that I have since forgotten

And photos

Eleven years have passed

I am now married and living abroad

He is engaged to another

Yet we are closer than before

Nothing will ever happen that could compromise our evolved lives

But I do hope that one day our bodies will someday stand in the presence of one another

And our souls will greet one another

With love, light, happiness, and peace

Because out of that tumultuous time

Came a Phoenix

She has been reborn on several occasions

Over the years

Yet there is still the innocent dreamer

Hidden beneath the ashes

I’m turning over a new leaf

Finishing this chapter

Closing it down

It’s time

I’ve spent too much time

Looking back

Reading past entries

Living in the pain

Believing it was how I was supposed

To be

Dwelling on the trauma

Won’t make it

Go away

I have no choice

Either I shed my old

Outgrown skin

Or I move forward while

Not peeking

Over my shoulder

Change is uncomfortable

I have to bare my soul

And skin

Risking new wounds

But burning this shell

Will enable me to

Emerge from the ashes

Death is the road to awe

I can flourish

I just need to

A siren reclines on on a wave-battered rock
In the middle of the ocean

Trailing her fingertips through the restless waters
Torrid like her heart
Threatening an oncoming storm

She gazes at her reflection
Large, luminous eyes
Full, shapely lips
Flowing dark hair
What every man would desire

Her voice
A sweet melodic symphony
That would steal the heart of any who listen
Capturing their souls
Hopeless to escape

All those men
All those hearts
All those disappointments
Have left her heart a hardened fortress
Nigh impossible to penetrate

A siren reclines on on a wave-battered rock
In the middle of the ocean

Let us create our own private paradise

Where the incessant drone of car horns

Is replaced with the lazy hum of insects

Where the shouts from people across the streets

Are replaced by the calls of birds

Where the buzz of a fan in a sweltering office

Is replaced with the drops of rain pattering through the leaves

Let us create our own private paradise

Finding nourishment for ourselves through the fruits of the land

Wearing nothing but the skin we were born with

Enjoying the soft earth as our bed

Making music through the movement of our entwined bodies

I will be your Eve

Let us create our own private paradise

A Special Place

You’ve nestled into a special place
In my heart
That no one else can reach

That special place
Has been empty for quite some time
And I didn’t know if it would re-ignite

Yet here it has
Yawning, stretching
Opening wider each day
As if waking from a long slumbering dream
Filled with hands grasping at impossible ideals
Trying to force what isn’t there
And giving false name to a different identity

My special place
Grows stronger every day
With fondness and tenderness
Hope and faith
Trust and patience
In you
Of you
With you

Although the chasm of time and distance is wide
We meet in my special place
Sharing our dreams, stories, and worlds
Slowly and steadily merging them as one
As I hope and pray that someday may truly happen

You’ve nestled into a special place
In my heart
That no one else can reach
