A River of Turmoil

She looks in the mirror

And watches her mascara

Begin to run down her face

Mixed with tears

Creating a river of turmoil

Why does it have to be like this?

It shouldn’t

It doesn’t

She made her choice

She tries

But she falters

When this happens

And she feels further and further away

Why does it have to be like this?

It shouldn’t

It doesn’t

Every night he is with her instead

Is a slap in the face

Bringing a pounding heart

And the poison of jealousy

Running through her veins

Why does it have to be like this?

It shouldn’t

It doesn’t

She feels like an afterthought

Sitting and staring at the phone

Wondering what it would be like

If she didn’t call

Would he think to reach out?

Why does it have to be like this?

It shouldn’t

It doesn’t

Opera & Moon and Sun

Hello everyone!

I just survived my first week of classes for my final undergraduate semester. On top of that, it’s production week and now performance weekend for my university’s Opera Scenes. We’re performing scenes from Menotti’s The Medium, Floyd’s Susannah, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore, and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. I’m in the chorus for Orfeo, and we’re singing it in Italian. It’s fun being a Fury and Blessed Spirit. I always love performing onstage. After Sunday, this will be my last time participating in Opera Scenes at my university. I’m not sure what will happen in the future regarding the opera scene and myself, but I’ll just see what happens. I won’t stop training classically and will probably remain in the art song scene. That’s where my strength lies. I will also be incorporating other styles into my training and future like jazz and contemporary forms.

Last night’s show went well. Our audience was a bit dead, though and didn’t really laugh at the comic scene. Afterwards, I did have fun going out with my friend G downtown St. Louis to get a yummy adult ice cream drink at The Fountain on Locust and afterward feasting on lasagna. Strange order of eating, I know, but there was a time constraint.

It’s time for me to get back to getting ready and productive with my day. Tonight is Performance #2! My family is coming this time. I’ll see if I can get some of my homework reading Act 2 of Titus Andronicus for my Shakespeare class started before I leave for the show tonight.

Meanwhile, here’s a new poem:

Moon and Sun

The moon draws me in

Illuminating with light

The night’s splendour here

While sun blazes hot

In passionate tendrils there

Possibilities

Both have their greatness

With two I can delight in

Yet with self on guard
